Stoneware bowl with underglaze iron decoration featuring an unusual phoenix motif in a central medallion with foot. Light grey-green glaze with iron spots, pin-holing, and fine crazing.
Five spur marks in the well. Signs of cylindrical kiln support on the base, indicating that this bowl was at the bottom of a stack.
History note: Bought by Shakeshaft from Peter Crabbe, 22nd March 2000 From Wudhi Mekdhanasarn, Bangkok, a major collector.
