Valentine card
Publisher: Unknown
Lace-paper lacking its original backing and which is pasted to a piece of buff-coloured card. The central panel contains two pink rose plants with flower blooms made from hand-coloured cut-paper and with hand-coloured cut-paper leaves and two hand-coloured cut-paper buds. Additional stems and leaves are hand-painted onto the paper. The petals, buds and leaves lift up to reveal hand-written inscriptions in brown ink detailing the names and birthdays of Queen Victoria, Prince Albert and their two eldest children, Princess Victoria and Prince Albert. A hand-written inscription above and below the central flower imagery: "Buds of Promise! / Dedicated to the infant / Prince and Princess". It seems likely that this commemorative card was made circa 1841, following the birth of Prince Albert.
