Valentine card
Publisher: Unknown
Cut-paper, tinsel and real feather collage forming two fans with metal handles on white silk panel within lace-paper. Inscribed in paint above and below: A Tribute of / Sincere Affection. Opens to show a painted garland of pink roses, morning glory flowers and a dove within lace-paper back sheet, mounted on green card. The painted garland would originally have been seen through the window in the lace-paper front sheet now covered with the silk panel and collage which was evidently a later addition. The lace-paper and initial design is probably by Henry Dobbs. (See notes) This card was included in the exhibition of valentine cards, _For ever thine: the nineteenth century valentine_, held in the Charrington Print Room at the Fitzwilliam Museum in 1995, no. 38. A graphite number "38" is written onto the album leaf in the lower right-hand corner, which corresponds to the numbering of the catalogue. Possibly by Henry Dobbs. (See notes)
