Valentine card
Publisher: Unknown
White lace-paper with gauze blind over a central window covering a scene of early-19th-century village life (figures and cattle gathered on a lane with cottages and a church in the background). The image is a Baxter process print produced by Baxter licensee, Joseph Mansell known as 'Drovers Departure', indicating that this valentine is probably by Mansell. The lace-paper is decorated with a collage of gold tinsel, chromolithographed and cut-paper flowers and leaves. A printed motto at upper centre: "Loves [sic] souvenir", with wreath and arrow through letter design. The front and back sheets are pasted together. See, _A Pictorial Catalogue of Joseph Mansell's Baxter Process Prints_, compiled by Michael Martin, Brian Lawrence and Roger Smith, for the New Baxter Society, 2006, reproduced no. 193, Drovers Departure, p. 53.
