Valentine card
Publisher: Unknown
White lace-paper with central window covered with a yellow (or yellowed) gauze blind mounted with an elaborate collage 'corsage' of real feathers of varying sizes and colours (blue and black striped, red, irridescent purple, white) held in a 'clasp' of gilt cut-paper bow and silver cut-paper leaves. A hand-painted design of flowers and fruit on the back-sheet is visible through the blind, although the feather collage obscures the hand-written verses which aren't readable until the card is opened: "These light and glowing feathers show / No borrow'd artificial hue / Thus far beyond the limner's art / 'Tis inborn nature dyes the heart ...".
