Valentine card
Publisher: Unknown
A 'raised' valentine composed of three layers; A first layer of white coated embossed lace-paper with gilt detail and shaped edges, a window at the centre edged with pleated cream paper 'ribbon'. Decorated at lower centre with a collage of fabric flowers, cream paper 'ribbon' bow and green feather foliage threaded with colourless beads (as dewdrops?) and with printed motto on a scroll: 'With my Love'. Scraps of flower wreaths with golden arrows are affixed at upper left and right. This layer is mounted with paper springs onto a third layer of plain embossed paper. A second layer mounted onto the third layer is of gilt lace-paper with central oval window containing a chromolithograph on a black ground of a boy and girl arm in arm. The inside pages are blank. Hand-written inscription in graphite on the album leaf: '3 /' [3 shillings]. Presumably relates to an inscription found on the verso of the card.
