A 'raised' valentine composed of two layers; a top layer of white embossed lace-paper is elaborately cut and shaped with a burgundy printed edge and oval window and mounted on paper springs to a second, simpler layer of embossed white paper with blue printed edge and oval window which is mounted with a chromolithograph of an 18th-century couple in a garden with flowers. The lace-paper layer decorated with scraps of a landscape scene at lower centre and motto: 'Remember me' at upper centre. A very faint, illegible maker's stamp visible on the verso of the second layer at lower centre. Partial watermark: '[...] & SONS'.
