Description

A valentine composed of two conjoined embossed white cards with hexagonal mesh design backed with brown paper. Two embossed scraps are affixed to the joins at left and right centre (forget me nots; keys). An embossed scrap of forget-me-nots and circular motto: 'WITH / FAITHFUL / LOVE' are affixed at upper centre and a silver embossed scrap with blue printed motto: 'Ever Constant & true' is affixed at lower centre. This joining together of two cards, probably originally a folding valentine, is seen elsewhere. See also P.14349-R-20, P.14349-R-23, P.14349-R-24 and P.14349-R-30. At the centre is a rectangular card of white coated paper with a lace edge and central arched gateway with fretwork doors mounted with an embossed scrap of a putti holding a flower garland. The doors open to reveal a chromolithograph of a rose bouquet. The embossed centrepiece with arched fretwork doors is seen on other cards and was also produced as a stand-alone card. See examples P.14411-R-89 and P.14411-R-90.
