Description

A large, home-made 4to-size valentine of cream wove paper, which appears unfinished. A garland of pasted cut-paper, hand-coloured flowers with additional hand-painted additions on the cream wove support in a circular arrangement with painted red ribbon tie at lower centre and Prince of Wales feathers with blue ribbon at upper centre. The cut-paper flowers lift up to reveal hand-written words or phrases in black ink and graphite (presumably written by the maker/sender): 'very much' (underneath forget-me-nots at upper left); 'That is a secret' (underneath pink rose at upper right); 'you are rude' (underneath striped tulip at centre left), etc.. There are some hand-written inscriptions in graphite which are not covered by cut-paper flowers/leaves.There is a circular impression in the paper at the centre, as if a frame was once placed there, and remnants of glue within this, as if something was once mounted there. The front paper is adhered to the back paper.
