Valentine card

Large 4to-size valentine with wide cameo-embossed border (as lace) with green ground and inner embossed 'lace' frame at the centre which surrounds a collage of coloured cut-paper leaves with lithographed and hand-coloured cut-paper morning glory flower and additional stencilled leaves. A hand-written verse in black ink at upper and lower centre: 'Dearest when these lines you see / Think oh! kindly think of me / Tell me I may call you mine / My hearts [sic] first love my Valentine'. The interior is blank. One of six similar cards contained in album P.14414-R, two of which are watermarked with the date 1846. P.14414-R-17 and P.14414-R-18 are mounted into the album. P.14414-R-L4, P.14414-R-L5, P.14414-R-L6 and P.14414-R-L7 were found loose inside the same leaf of the album.
