Valentine card
Publisher: Dobbs, Henry
White lace-paper with embossed design of Baroque scrolls and flags at upper left and right. The flags are decorated with hand-painted stems of coral in red and grey. An embossed ornamental paper bracket in red and gold is mounted at the centre which holds a chromolithographed scrap of exotic fruit. The scrap is embellished with stencilled additions of leaves and tendrils and cut-paper leaves. The display is suspended on a length of painted red, white and blue 'ribbon' which terminates in a paper ribbon loop. A collage of hand-coloured cut-paper flowers and leaves is arranged at lower centre which is joined to two silver paper dove ornaments by hand-drawn red cords. 'DOBBS, KIDD & [CO]' is stamped on a Baroque scroll at lower left. The front paper is adhered to the back paper. 'Dobbs Kidd' is written in graphite onto the album leaf below the card. The hand is recognisable as that of Miss Catherine Parsons and is seen in other albums throughout the collection, documenting and transcribing inscriptions, prices and maker's names. Catherine Parsons was a close friend of Glaisher towards the end of his life and undertook to arrange and mount his valentine collection into albums from the Autumn of 1924 through to the Summer of the following year and beyond.
