Description

12mo-size white wove paper with waved 'solomonic' cameo-embossed border with light brown ground. At the centre are hand-painted stems and leaves in green with applied cut-paper and hand-coloured leaves and a large, cut-paper pink rose with hand-drawn detail in red ink. The central petal lifts up and was designed to hide hand-written messages, but the paper underneath here is blank. A motto, 'Content with thee', is written in blue ink at lower centre. The interior is blank. A hand-written inscription in graphite at lower right: '6/ [6 shillings]'. There are other cards of a similar design in album P.14414-R, all of which employ the same wavy, embossed border. P.14414-R-19 and P.14414-R-20 both feature the same border, but with a dark yellow ground. See also P.14414-R-59 and P.14414-R-60.
