Description

A leaf of embossed, die-cut paper of a design of flowers in and around an urn with scroll handles with applied gold leaf and hand colouring. At the centre of the urn is a collage of green linen leaves and cut-paper, hand-coloured flowers with an embossed, uncoloured paper Cupid ornament. Around the collage is a frame of silver lace-paper mounted onto paper springs. Part of the frame and two springs are lost at upper centre and centre left. The gilt embossed paper, probably formerly the front paper of a valentine, is mounted onto a larger 8vo leaf of pink wove paper which has an embossed design at the centre and is stamped: 'Rock & Co.' (viewed from the verso). 'U' written in graphite at upper left of the pink wove paper secondary support. Similar inscriptions/markings in graphite are found on other cards in the same album.
