A Blessing Valentine card
Publisher: Mullord Bros.
A small sachet valentine of white, coated paper with a silver embossed design on four sides which opens like a book and is attached through holes in the album leaf with the original ribbon tie, meaning that both recto and verso are visible. On the recto: A central oval embossed panel is decorated with a scrap of a yellow rose containing a boy (same as on verso). Inside on the left: an oval window contains a silk panel with an embroidered title and verse in purple thread: 'A / Blessing / May the blessing of / God await thee - the sun / of glory shine around thy / bed ; and may the gates of / plenty, honour, and happi- / ness, be ever open to thee! ...'. Inside on the right: a panel of white padded silk is decorated with a scrap of pansies and sealed letter. The padding presumably contains cotton wool which would originally have been impregnanted with perfume. On the verso: A central oval embossed panel is decorated with a scrap of a yellow rose containing a boy (same as on recto). Stamped on the verso: 'MULLORD 413'. Mounted with three other sachet valentines on the same album leaf.
