I Love Thee Valentine card
Publisher: Unknown
A valentine front paper of embossed gilt lace-paper with rounded corners and with a central oval of silk pasted to a panel of gilt-lace paper which is attached at the left edge to the centre. The silk is printed with a title and verse in black ink: 'I Love Thee. / Words all too feeble, to picture, / The adoration that floods my soul / When I but gaze on thee!'. A small, die-cut chromolithograph of a bird is affixed to the panel at centre right. The panel lifts up to reveal a second panel of white silk which backs the central window of the front paper and which is hand-painted with forget-me-nots and a butterfly. The front paper is affixed with paper springs to a secondary support of white lace-paper, which is pasted to a tertiary support of pale yellow wove paper. No. 58 employs the same front paper design of embossed, gilt lace-paper.
