Valentine card
Publisher: Unknown
A valentine of embossed white wove paper with a layer of cameo-embossed gilt lace-paper overlaid on paper springs (the upper layer adhered to the lower layer at upper left). A central oval window contains a chromolithograph of a thatched cottage with beehive in the garden and church spire seen in the distance on the right. A die-cut chromolithograph of a boy in a grey jacket and trousers, running along and holding his hat in the air, is pasted below the oval window so that when the upper layer is lifted up on the paper springs, the scene becomes three-dimensional. Two white satin leaves and a gilt-edged motto of Cupid holding a swag with the motto: 'LOVE'S / TRIBUTE' are affixed at upper centre. The front paper is adhered to the back paper. A hand-written inscription in graphite on the album leaf below: '?Marked [arrow pointing upwards to the verso]'.
