I've Told Thee Valentine card
Publisher: Unknown
An ornate, 'raised' valentine of buff-coloured embossed paper (landscape orientation) with shaped edges tinted blue, overlaid on paper springs with white and silver lace-paper with a central window and two small panels to either side. The central window contains a panel of lattice-work white lace-paper with a circular window backed with white silk printed with a verse in black ink: 'I'VE TOLD THEE. / I've told thee, I've told / thee, a hundred times o'er, / I love thee, I love thee - / what can I say more? / I care not for wealth, and / I ask not for fame, / I love thee, and thy love / is all that I claim'. The two side panels are decorated with embossed flower scraps. A garland of white linen blossom on a string and a purple linen flower with wax centre is arranged around the central window. The interior is blank. Mounted onto the same album leaf as a very similar valentine, P.14417-R-103. A hand-written inscription on the album leaf at lower right: '2 for 6 /= [6 shillings]'. This either relates to inscriptions found on the versos of the two cards mounted on this leaf prior to mounting (P.14417-R-102 and P.14417-R-103), or is transcribed from a list of valentines bought by Glaisher from a dealer, like that sent to Glaisher by second-hand book dealer, R.S. Frampton (See P.14416-R-L1). The inscription indicates that the two valentines were bought as a pair.
