Valentine card
Publisher: Unknown
A small 64mo-size valentine of two layers of embossed white lace-paper in a design of three classical arches, the top layer with gilt detail, which are joined together with paper springs. The upper portion is largely adhered together and the second layer is adhered to the back paper. A collage of embossed hand-coloured flowers and gauze leaves is arranged below the central arch at lower centre. At upper centre is a second collage of black coated paper fern fronds with pink linen flowers and scroll-bordered white paper with silver lithographed detail and blue printed motto: 'How sweet it is to have / one lovely treasure'. The central archway displays a collage of gauze leaves, some with hand-coloured blue edges, and an embossed white and gilt ornament of a (now headless) medieval couple playing instruments. The two smaller arches to left and right display similar gauze leaves with hand-coloured blue edges, and small, silver-threaded linen flowers.
