Valentine card
Publisher: Unknown
A front of gilt and white embossed lace-paper in a scallop shell design is mounted at the centre with a scene in two layers: mounted on paper springs, now stuck down, a lithographed and hand-coloured 'frame' of trees, banks and fences and small church surrounds a central lithographed and hand-coloured scene of a stone balustrade with distant vista downhill towards a large church. A hand-coloured paper cut-out figure of a winged Cupid wearing a red coat and top hat is affixed at the centre. The 'frame' would originally have pulled upwards on the paper springs and rendered the scene three-dimensional. A small lozenge of paper within a gilt frame affixed at lower centre bears a lithographed verse in blue ink: 'Be constant / unto me / and I will [illegible word] be so to thee'. The front paper is adhered to the back paper.
