Valentine card
Publisher: Unknown
A white lace-paper front in two layers of the same design, the upper attached to the lower with paper springs, which are stuck down at upper centre. The design of the paper incorporates 'dripping' flower garlands, birds with rings in their beaks and a classically draped figure playing a lyre. A collage of silver metallic leaves and chromolithographed violet and rose surrounds the circular window at lower centre of the upper layer. A closed book with silver detail and lithographed with the motto: 'Can / You / Love / Me', is affixed below. The circular window of the lower layer has a mauve gauze blind which is mounted with a collage of a chromolithographed white dove carrying a flower stem and surrounded with an embossed paper flower garland with gilt detail and hand colouring. The front has no back paper (which has been cut from it along the left edge) and is pasted directly onto the album leaf.
