Valentine card
Publisher: Unknown
A white lace-paper front is mounted at upper centre with a collage of cut-paper fern fronds, silver lace-paper fern fronds and a chromolithographed paper butterfly. The butterfly is double layered and the top layer on each side lifts up to reveal two lithographed messages: 'DOUBT NOT / MY HEART / IS THINE ; AND LOVE / NONE ELSE / BUT YOU'. A piece of yellow and gilt embossed paper with flower design is affixed at the centre, flanked by glazed and embossed flower scraps and two white, embossed paper putti on rice-paper clouds, which would have originally lifted off the surface on paper springs, but which are now stuck down. A collage of real moss and white paper flowers with a small, silver metallic bow is arranged at lower centre. The lace-paper front is adhered to the back paper. A hand-written inscription in graphite on the album leaf above: '1867', which is probably a transcription of a date found on the verso of the valentine prior to mounting into the album. The hand is probably that of Catherine Parsons (1890-1956), who mounted and arranged Glaisher's valentine albums from the Autumn of 1924 through to the Summer of the following year and beyond.
