Valentine card
Publisher: Windsor & Sons
A valentine of cameo-embossed white and gold lace-paper of an ornate design of fringed curtains enclosing female statues on plinths balancing baskets of fruit on their heads (Ceres?). A slip paper of pink tissue is inserted behind. A circular window at upper centre contains a chromolithograph of hunting dogs with red dahlias and pink thistles on glazed paper. Mounted onto an area of slip paper at lower centre is a gilt, oval framed panel of ridged white paper printed with the motto: 'To / My Little / favourite.'. 'WINDSOR' is stamped onto the plinth at lower left. The back paper is missing. An initial 'N' is written in graphite on the album leaf below the valentine. The names 'Edith' and 'Netty' are written into the album. These names would probably account for the single initials of 'E' or 'N' written on the album leaves adjacent to a number of the valentines in the album. The initials presumably indicate either from whom they were received or to whom they were sent.
