Description

A small 48mo-size valentine of white lace-paper in two layers, the first mounted on paper springs, now stuck down and a green slip paper at upper centre. A central circular window displays a collage of cut-paper, hand-coloured leaves and flowers. A small lozenge of blue lithographed paper affixed at lower centre bears the motto: 'Haste / to the / Wedding'. The first and second layer and back paper are now all adhered together. 'KERSHAW' is stamped along the spine at lower left. An initial 'N' is written in graphite on the album leaf below the valentine. The names 'Edith' and 'Netty' are written into the album. These names would probably account for the single initials of 'E' or 'N' written on the album leaves adjacent to a number of the valentines in the album. The initials presumably indicate either from whom they were received or to whom they were sent.
