Valentine card
Publisher: Kershaw, George
Silver and white embossed lace-paper of a design featuring garlanded columns and stags. A central window has a rice-paper blind with a hand-stencilled and drawn basket of fruit and flowers. A red foil slip paper behind the stags at lower centre and above, a collage of cut-paper leaves and a lithographed paper scroll with gold detail and printed verse: 'Oh how happy / shall I be / When I can / call thee mine'. A slip of paper, hand-coloured blue is affixed behind the lace-paper lunette at upper centre. 'KERSHAW & SON' is stamped along the spine at lower left. The interior is blank. An initial 'N' is written in graphite on the album leaf below the valentine. The names 'Edith' and 'Netty' are written into the album. These names would probably account for the single initials of 'E' or 'N' written on the album leaves adjacent to a number of the valentines in the album. The initials presumably indicate either from whom they were received or to whom they were sent.
