Description

A valentine of white lace-paper with a central panel with scalloped edge and repeating internal handpainted line border in green paint. Cut-paper, hand-coloured forget-me-not flowers with hand-drawn and stencilled ivy leaves are affixed to either side of a central lozenge-shaped window with a scalloped edge and repeated scalloped border drawn in red ink. The window has a beige gauze blind through which can be seen a hand-painted and drawn applied paper convolvulus flower with stencilled ivy leaves and stems. A handwritten message in red ink: 'Constancy and love / to my friend', is written above and below the central window. 'MANSELL' is stamped at lower centre. The back is of white wove paper and the verso is blank. The valentine has been folded twice.
