Description

A miniature valentine, probably from the 1880s, which additionally contains a Chrismas message. A die-cut, embossed card with Wedgewood-style cameo design in blue and white overmounted with a chromolithographed flower scrap (fuschia and dahlia). Inside is a small medallion of white paper lithographed in gold ink: 'A TOKEN / OF / AFFECTION'. Below is a die-cut scrap of a winter scene with robin, holly and watermill in snow and scroll bearing the message: 'A MERRY CHRISTMAS'. Remnants of paper on the verso indicate that this card was previously mounted elsewhere.
