Description

A valentine of white lace-paper, front and back. The embossed designs of flowers and leaves within the lace-paper are partially hand-coloured on the recto. Additional flower sprigs have been painted onto embossed flags at upper left and right. A central window has a blind of white net which is mounted with a loop of spun glass held with silver embossed cut-paper grape-vine motifs and a 'bow' of cut-paper hand-coloured flowers and foliage, pierced with a small, paper gilt arrow (Cupid's golden arrow). The blind gives a view through to a small circular mirror bordered with silver embossed paper leaves and mounted onto a backing of white silk on the inside right-hand page. A title is written in gold ink at upper centre: 'A / Charmed / Circle'. DOBBS KIDD & CO is stamped at lower centre. A price is inscribed on the verso in graphite: '4/ [4 shillings]'.
