Basket maker
Netsuke: katabori: Basket maker. Wood and ivory, carved and stained. Figure of a man (a basket weaver?) wearing only a loin cloth and seated on a basket whilst holding the handle with two hands and steadying it with his right foot, with a look of intense concentration. Crudely carved with details of the basket finely carved. Himotoshi with inset circular ivory ring.
History note: H.S. Reitlinger (d.1950); the Reitlinger Trust, Maidenhead, from which transferred in 1991.
