Soft-paste porcelain painted underglaze in bright blue. The glaze is very pale greenish-blue. Circular with shallow curved sides, standing on a footring. There is a faint incised circle underglaze on the base. The front is painted with a Chinese figure wearing a hat, standing beside a fence and plants with a butterfly (?) overhead. The Vauxhall factory was founded c. 1753 by John Sanders and Nicholas Crisp, the latter being the financial backer. Sanders died in 1758 and was succeeded by his son, William. Crisp was declared bankrupt in 1763 and this led to the closure of the factory. It made soft-paste porcelain, mainly teawares decorated underglaze in blue Chinese-style patterns.
