Description

Carved wooden statuette of a standing woman with arms by side. Suggested as not ancient Egyptian, due to unusual rendering of figure, with an exaggeration of features (particularly breasts and hips). There is severe damage to the back of the head, and a chip as well as a missing piece can be seen on the rear. The object stands on a square base (with a single dowel hole), and is said to connect to E.GA.114b.1949, a square base. However, the number of dowel holes do not match, and it is written in slip-book 'E.GA.1501.1947 to E.GA.250.1949' as: "Statuette of woman, base which is inscribed, does not belong". The reason behind this pairing originally remains unclear. Label on back reads: "R.G.Gayer-Anderson Loan Collection, 1917, VI-17'. A pen inscription reads 'E.114/49'.
