The name 'Sally' was very common for ships, and it has not been possible to identify which this one was. According to Glaisher's MS notebook catalogue entry, the bowl used to have a label attached to it inscribed 'Sally of Whitehaven, Captain Kenner, was taken by the French in 1757 on a voyage to St Petersburg, but this has not been verified.
