Description

Soft-paste porcelain custard cup and cover, painted with fruits and flowers in polychrome enamels and gilt.

Soft-paste porcelain painted in blue, green, turquoise-green, yellow, pink, purple, red, and black enamels, and gilt. The cup stands on a footring and has deep bulbous sides, a slightly everted rim, and a loop handle. The circular cover is slightly domed, and has a knob in the shape of a rose on a stalk with three leaves. The exterior of the cup is painted with a peach, a damson, and a spray of hawthorn; two strawberries, and leaves; and two cherries witha pale brown fruit and leaves. It has a gold band round the footring, one down each side of the handle, and a dentilated band round the rim. The cover, is painted with two detached leaves, two strawberries and a blue flower, and a small three leaf sprig. The flower knob is painted yellow and red, and leaves yellow, and green or turquoise-green, with dark purple veining.
