Description

Earthenware figure of a goat, tin-glazed and painted in green and shades of manganese-purple

Buff earthenware, moulded, tin-glazed, and painted in dark green, and shades of pale and dark manganese-purple. The goat is supported on a rectangular base with sloping sides which is hollow underneath and is painted dark green. The goat is standing in profile to the viewer with its head turned slightly to its left. Its horns (probably replacements) are white, and the rest of it is streaked with shades of manganese-purple except for the hooves which are solid colour. It has a ventilation hole under its tail. Note

The Ewer Factory (De Lampetkan) operated in Delft between 1609 and 1811. The mark LPK was used from the 1749s until the end of the factory, also LPKan. The animal figures probably date from about 1760 to 1785.
