Factory: Unidentified Staffordshire Pottery
Creamware with mould-applied reliefs and touches of green and purple underglaze oxides.
Cream-coloured earthenware with lead glaze and mould-applied reliefs touched with green and manganese-purple oxides underglaze. The teapot has a globular body, s-curved round spout and crabstock handle. Each side of the teapot features a symmetrical pattern with a flower at the centre with a scroll below and flanked by looped scrolls with flowers hanging from anthemia. The lid has a twig loop handle.
History note: Provenance unknown before Mr Piper, 55 South Street, Bishop’s Stortford, who sold for £1.5(25/-) on 7 February 1924 to Dr J.W.L. Glaisher, FRS, Trinity College, Cambridge.
