Woman representing Winter
Production: Unidentified Staffordshire factory (Probably)
Cream earthenware painted in green, yellow, and manganese-purple under lead-glaze. A standing woman holding a muff representing Winter
Cream earthenware, press-moulded, and painted in green, yellow, pale manganese-purple, and a little dark brown under slightly blue tinted lead-glaze. The underside is closed and has a ventilation hole in the centre. Winter is represented by a woman standing on a circular green mound supported on a white square base. She faces to the front with her hands concealed in a yellow muff at waist level. She wears a long yellow dress and an ermine mantle with yellow edges which covers her head and upper body at the front, and extends down to the ground at the back. The toe of her visible shoe is dark brown.
