Production: Lötscher, Andreas
Red earthenware, the front only coated with white slip and painted in brownish-red, green, and blue under lead-glaze. On the back some slip has run over from the front, but it is otherwise undecorated. Circular, wth shallow curved sides, and at the back, a vertical arched extension. The front of the exterior is decorated with a red flower flanked by leaves, and there is a plant in the middle of the vertical back, and the date 1841 (the second digit obliterated).
History note: Mr Dreyfus, Geneva, from whom purchassed on 22 February 1904 by Dr J.W.L. Glaisher, FRS, Trinity College, Cambridge.

Production date: dated AD 1841 : When purchased by Dr Glaisher the date had been altered to 1741, but he realized that it was originally 1841 and had been altered to deceive the purchaser
The date is now almost illegible but was originally 1841. The bowl was made for hand washing and would have had a cistern with a tap attached to the wall over it
