Buff coloured earthenware octagonal vessel of a very soft texture. Used for grinding Chinese ink.
Each facet has a black glazed ground with characters in relief, painted with a brownish yellow glaze. The inscription reads "Just as the sun rises; Just as the Moon is everlasting"
History note: Found at Tek-To, in the Yellow River. Bought from Bluett, 1924
