Edited by Donald W. Knoepfler from the ms. in the Lilly Library, Indiana University. The ms. was printed in 1927 in an edition of 200 copies commissioned by M. Harzof, New York, but most copies were destroyed at his order before distribution. One copy is in the Lilly Library with Twain's ms.
Included at end is a facsim. of a letter from Twain to C.H. Webb, dated Nov. 25 [1867?] explaining why he was unable to complete the play.

"Donald Knoepfler has hand-set this book in 12 point Baskerville type and printed it on Mohawk paper, using the original wood engravings, in an edition limited to 150 numbered and signed copies. June 1986."--Colophon Museum has complimentary copy signed by John DePol and Donald Knoepfler.
