Walrus ivory, bone, red coral and white metal (silver?); the bowl carved from walrus ivory and the long narrow handle carved from bone with white metal ferrules and red coral branch finial
Walrus ivory, bone, red coral and white metal (silver?) spoon. The shallow fig-shaped bowl is carved from walrus ivory, using its distinctive grain pattern to maximum effect, and has a short stem. A metal ferrule, engraved with chevrons, joins the stem to the long narrow tapering bone handle, which is made in two adjoining sections: the lower plain, the upper half carved with a raised pattern of lozenges. Above this is another chevron-engraved white metal (silver?) ferrule, and the handle terminates in a branch of red coral.
